Painting with light
Thanks to Annie Blick, Jenny Bircher and Andy Harbin of Stroud Camera Club ( http://www.stroudcameraclub.co.uk) for leading this exercise in Painting With Light. Try it yourself - put your camera on a tripod, set it at 100 ISO and about F8 and if you're using a zoom lens, set it at about 35mm. Set your focus to Manual and set the distance roughly to the distance between you and the torch bearer. Get a friend to wave a torch around, or a sparkler, or trace a car with a laser light while you open the shutter for anything up to 30 seconds. Experiment! You'll get all sorts of results. You do need a dark night with as little extraneous light as possible!
